Welcome to my Website!
My name is Bob Paolinelli and I am a composer, mostly of Avant Garde music. I've been involved in music in one way or another since the late fifties. I started out playing tenor sax in a few jazz groups but eventually became interested in composing. Ever since hearing Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, I was hooked on modern music. After receiving a music education outside of the academic world, through private instruction and self-
Several years ago, I discovered composing using virtual sound sources, a computer and notation software to create my music. Since then, I've acquired a substantial number of great sounding virtual instrument libraries that I've used to create all the music you'll hear on this website. It's not that I'm opposed to live performance. Far from it. It means that, for me, this makes the most sense and gives me a better way to present my work. Keep in mind that, whether you write a letter or send an email, it's what you have to say that counts.
I began composing using traditional tonality but evolved to more of a pantonal, and then eventually to an atonal method, including serialism. I continue to write in a mix of these styles, often blending them in a single piece. I also became interested in using electronic sound sources and have composed several works that are mostly electronic. I came to realize that a composer's palette should include all sounds, regardless of their source or their nature. This enables me to break out of conventions and traditions to create a music that reflects who I am, and what has become my signature sound.
My intention with this website is two fold. First, it's main purpose is to share my music with everyone, without charge and without any restrictions for usage. Second, it's a repository for a lifetime of work that is my legacy. I'm not interested at this point in my life to make a living writing music. I'm more interested in sharing it with all of you so that the experience might increase your appreciation of modern music, both mine and other modern composers. I invite you to listen to and download my work, check out my scores and share some of the papers I've written.
As always, I invite your feedback. You can email me to share your comments and suggestions at
